NEWS

Hello all you tortoise lovers out there. I know from the countless phone calls I am getting that lots of your tortoises are awake early this year, as are most of mine. I have already started to fill up my big greenhouses with the early ones, the lamps are going, the heaters are going and my electricity bill is going up!

I have had a crazy February because BBC Radio Cornwall telephoned me to ask if I would talk live on air about tortoises, which of course I did and suddenly it was picked up by the media and I had a week of television and radio fame. I even made it onto Sky news, I had as many as four television crews here one day, the field was a temporary home to several large white vans with satellite dishes on the top, it was all very exciting and I know lots of you saw me on the television and lots of you were generous enough to send me donations towards my heating bill. I replied to every one who sent an address and to all those who sent a donation with no details, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for your generosity. It has strengthened my belief in humanity and I appreciated every donation that came in. I even had donations from Australia, New Zealand, Italy and France. I am now busy trying to keep all the tortoises warm and eating, no casualties so far this year, fingers crossed for it to continue.

Easter is really early this year so I am hoping for a warm one again like last year but followed by a proper summer this time. I am looking forward to seeing all our Easter visitors, both past visitors and new ones. There are several new arrivals and more to come, Wally arrived today, he is a lovely spur thigh and very friendly. Baillee is a large Sulcata, too good looking for his own good but he is a big softie. Thank you again for your generosity, see you at Easter,

good wishes to all from
