Hello all you lovely tortoise people out there, most
of you will know by know that I have spent two years
trying to fight the local council who have re-classified the tortoises as wild
animals and insist I will not be able to re-open to the public without a zoo
license. This is not an option for me so the sad news is that I have made the
decision that I will not be opening to the public again. I am looking at this
in a positive light and will be doing what I think is best for the tortoises.
If you have a tortoise living here, you will already have heard from me about
its future. Anyone who is a member of a tortoise society around the country who
might want to take on a re-home, please contact me in the spring, as I will
then have made some decisions about the collection.
May I take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank
you to all of you who have supported me through this time and especially all
those people who have sent donations here or paid into my paypal
account. I cannot tell you how grateful I have been
for this support and I hope those of you who can spare a little, will continue
to do so. I have replied to all those who sent me an address but some of you
sent money anonymously and to all of you, I say a big thank you.
If the family from Birmingham who bought me a large
tortoise called Humphrey in and left no contact details is reading this, she is
now called Lady Humphrey and she is doing very well. She is eating and walking
about a little so I have every hope she will recover. Some of you have become
regular donators to the tortoise funds, you know who you are and I appreciate
all your help. We managed to stay open for most of the summer and had quite a
busy one. The weather was not brilliant but the tortoises didn’t seem too
bothered. They were reluctant to hibernate this year due to the mild autumn we
had a number of you phoned me with the same problem. Lots of confused tortoises
around the country. This latest cold snap persuaded most of mine it
really was time to give in so all is quiet here. I had to have a new heating
system put into the tropical house for Zeus and friends as theirs broke down
and it was cheaper to replace the system than dig all the concrete up to repair
it!! Such is life. I will still be taking calls if anyone needs any help or
advice and I will still be doing holiday babysitting.
Thank you all so much for your continuing support,
happy Christmas to all and a safe peaceful new year.
All our good wishes to you all out there,
Joy & Geoff.
